Also called rhytidoplasty, this is considered the most effective procedure for mitigating the signs of aging, and is recommended for men and women from the age of 45 or for patients with a high degree of facial aging.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is important to emphasize that a facelift cannot stop the natural aging process. During the consultation, the professional will conduct a thorough evaluation of the patient&#039;s face, and it is common for them to photograph the individual to show the before and after of the facelift.<\/p>\n<p>Daily skincare and lifestyle habits are discussed during this pre-surgical consultation. The plastic surgeon will advise the patient to stop using dermocosmetics or medications that may interfere with the surgical procedure, such as drugs that alter the coagulation and healing process. The choice of analgesia also takes into account the type of facelift to be performed on the patient, which may be:<\/p>\n<p>Mini facelift: a less invasive technique, with a smaller incision and scar. It is considered the ideal method for patients with a low degree of facial sagging, focusing on the middle and lower third of the face, i.e., cheeks and neck;<br \/>\nUpper face lift: a technique that combats the signs of aging on the forehead and eyelids, which are the most common complaints of patients in plastic surgeons&#039; offices;<br \/>\nTraditional or classic facelift: this surgical technique is performed on patients with a high degree of facial aging, and covers the entire face.<br \/>\nUnderstand how each of the following surgical techniques is performed.<\/p>\n<p>The traditional facelift is the most complete and complex facial rejuvenation procedure. The incision, or cut, begins behind the right ear, runs along the side of the face close to the hairline, and ends behind the left ear. All the facial muscles are repositioned and excess fat is removed before the surgeon closes the incision.<\/p>\n<p>In a mini facelift or neck lift, the incision begins in front of the ear, contours the area, and ends at the nape of the neck next to the scalp. This type of incision can correct sagging skin on the neck, and fat accumulation in the jowls and chin.<\/p>\n<p>A facelift can also involve limited and smaller incisions in the temporal region, around the ear, under the upper lip, and inside the lower eyelids. Skin adhesives and sutures are used to close the incisions. Home care also directly impacts the reduction of the risk of complications.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the facelift, the plastic surgeon will apply a delicate dressing around the face to reduce bruising and swelling. This dressing is similar to a hairband and helps keep the facial skin as taut as possible, thus improving the results of the procedure. In some cases, it may be necessary to use a drain to remove excess fluid and blood that can accumulate in the operated area.<\/p>\n<p>It is common for patients to experience pain, tenderness, and have swelling and bruising after surgery. However, these discomforts are minimized with the use of prescribed medications and even lymphatic drainage of the face. The sutures will be removed between seven and ten days later at the office of the surgeon who performed the facelift.<\/p>\n<p>It is important that the patient does not wet their scalp while the dressings are still on the patient&#039;s skin. Apply cold water compresses to the eyes to help reduce swelling and improve comfort.
